Most federal and state financial aid programs require you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Filing the FAFSA is free! Need help? Check out our resources below!

Three-Step Guide to Completing the FAFSA
STEP 1. CREATE YOUR FSA ID (YOU AND YOUR PARENTS)
Have you created your StudentAid.gov account?
If not, create a StudentAid.gov account before completing the FAFSA. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your account.
The student and each required FAFSA contributor must create their own StudentAid.gov account. Do not share account information between individuals.

STEP 3. COMPLETE THE 2027-28 FAFSA
The 2027–28 FAFSA is now open. Complete the 2027–28 FAFSA application on the Federal Student Aid website.

How to Fill Out the FAFSA
You will be redirected to the TSAC Student Portal. Applying for a scholarship (example: the Tennessee Promise) is not complete once a student portal account has been created. Next, you must re-enter your Username and Password and answer the challenge question. Once you have accepted the “User Agreement”, click the “Apply for Scholarships” button and then click the appropriate scholarship program to complete and submit the online application.
